Rev. James Walter Self

Rev. James Walter Self, 92, of Gastonia, passed away January 18, 2017 at his residence.

He was born October 7, 1924 in Gaston County the son of the late Lester and Bonnie Self.

James was a veteran of the United States Army.  He was an evangelist who was on several radio stations, including WKMT of Kings Mountain for over 50 years and most recently WCSL of Cherryville.

Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife Ginger Self; sons Steve Self, Marshall Self and Jimmy Self and his wife Cathy; daughters Evelyn Day, Shirley Tignor and husband Ronnie, Kimberly Hill and husband Jerry; brothers Bryson Self and wife Diane; special grandson Steve E. Self and wife Brenda; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons Billy Wayne Self and Jack Lee Self and his brother Marvin Self.

A graveside service, officiated by the Rev. Leo Kuykendall, will be held 3 pm Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Hollywood Cemetery 540 N. Broad Street, Gastonia.

Receiving of friends and family will be held 1:30 – 2:30 pm prior to the service at Greene Funeral Service – South Chapel – 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia.

Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Lincoln County – 900 Dontia Drive, Lincolnton, NC 28092.
