James "Butch" Ray Steele

James "Butch" Ray Steele, 80, of Gastonia, passed away January 8, 2024, at Belaire Health Care Center in Gastonia.

He was born November 29, 1943, in Gaston County, son of the late James Wesley Steele and Virginia Thomas Steele.

James was always found hunting or fishing. He loved spending time with his friends at the hunting lodge.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Greene Funeral Service, West Chapel, 216 Archie Whitesides Road Gastonia, officiated by the Rev. Gregory Floyd.

The family will receive friends 1-2 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.

Interment will be at Bessemer City Memorial Cemetery.

James is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Brenda Rowland Steele; son, Jackie Steele; daughter, Tammy Steele; sister, Sandi Jackson (Chip); fur babies, Baby, Bella and Macy; granddaughter, Brittany Leigh Thompson (Jeffrey).

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Steele; sister, Shirley Conn.

Arrangements are with the West Chapel of Greene Funeral Service located at 216 Archie Whitesides Road Gastonia.
