James "Jim" Painter, 85, of Gastonia, passed away April 5, 2015 at Caromont Regional Medical Center. He was born November 10, 1929 in Haywood County, the son of the late Frank T. and Ruby Painter. Jim was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Gastonia. He was a veteran of the US Air force who served during the Korean War. Jim was the owner of Jim Painter Typewriter for several years. He was an avid golfer and after retirement, helped build and repair golf clubs. He was also an avid bowler who was a member of several league teams. He loved to rescue dogs and other pets. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Willa Painter; daughters, Luellen P. Williford and husband, Eric and Jennie P. Watson and Sam Ray; grandchildren, Amanda B. Drum and husband, Matthew, Cassie Lowrance and Adam Woliver, Aimee Watson; great-grandchildren, McKenna Birch and Maxton Drum; nephews, Mark, Mike and Mitch Painter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John T. Painter. A celebration of life will be held 2 pm Thursday at Faith United Methodist Church - 1511 East Ozark Drive, Gastonia, officiated by the Rev. Laura Auten. Visitation will be held 6 - 8 pm Wednesday at Greene Funeral Service - South Chapel - 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia. Burial with full military honors will be in Gaston Memorial Park. Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
