James Franklin Mccarthy, Sr.

James Franklin McCarthy, Sr. 85, of Bessemer City, went to be with the Lord with his wife, Thelma by his side, July 22, 2015. He was born April 21, 1930 a native of Gaston County, the son of the late George and Hattie McCarthy. James attended Midview Baptist Church, Kings Mountain. He loved his family and never met a stranger. He had a great sense of humor. James retired from W.R. Grace Company after 20 years of service. The family wishes to give special thanks to Dr. David Layne and Dr. Mark Reiber and nurse Donna Matherly and nurse Lisa Bradshaw and Anita, the Chaplin of Gaston Hospice. Left to cherish his memories are his wife Thelma Bolding McCarthy of over 68 years; sons James Franklin McCarthy Jr., Ronald Steven McCarthy, Rev. Jeffrey Douglas McCarthy and wife Ilene; daughters, Susan Elaine Kiser and husband Phillip, Kathy Louise McRee and husband Richard, Dr. Amy Michelle Sifford and husband Michael; sister, Juanita "Toby" Greene; grandchildren, Jennifer McCarthy Brooks and Husband Jerry, Russell Kiser and wife Amanda, Stephen McCarthy and wife Amy, Allison Honeycutt and husband Jon, Krista Ward and husband Bill, Sr., Melissa McCarthy, Jessica McRee, Nathan McRee and wife Tiffany, Mark McCarthy, Hope Sifford, Anna Queen and husband Will; great-grandchildren, Brittany Brooks and Kayla McCarthy, Cydney Pitts, Trevor McCarthy, Averie McCarthy, Donovan Kiser, Samantha Honeycutt, Owen Honeycutt, Matthew McCarthy, Corbin Scott, Aydan McCarthy, Eli Rhyne, Ayden Queen, Shell Queen, Asher Queen, Kimharie Hall, Mikah Hall; great-great-grandchildren, Gavin Hullender, Sarah Hullender. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Archie, Bob, Reid, Jack, Winnie, Bill and George McCarthy; sisters, Rosie Mae McSwain and Dorothy Wallace and great granddaughter, Jennifer Dawn Brooks. A funeral service will be held 3 pm Monday at Loray Baptist Church - 1128 W. Franklin Blvd., officiated by the Rev. Jeffrey McCarthy. The family will receive friends 6 - 8 pm Sunday at Greene Funeral Service - South Chapel - 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia. Burial will be in Gaston Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to McCarthy Mission Fund c/o Rose of Sharon Baptist Church, 4109 Guess Road, Durham, NC 27712. Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
