James Nathan Marshall, 62, of Gastonia, passed away on June 3, 2015 at his home. He was born January 1, 1953 in Wayne County, NC, son of the late Charlie and Anna Perry. "I love my family " is something James announced often at cookouts, tailgates, holidays - relishing any occasion to eat, drink and be merry with his family and friends. He was a devoted friend who was always there to share a meal and a laugh in the good times, and was there to lend a helping hand in the bad times. James was truly loved by all who knew him. He enjoyed grilling, gardening, the Dolphins and the Panthers. He was a dedicated employee of Timken Lincolnton Bearing Plant, retiring in 2013 after 23 years of service. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a still photo lab specialist from 1971 - 1974. A gathering of family and friends will be 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Saturday at Greene Funeral Service, West Chapel, 216 Archie Whitesides Rd. Gastonia. James is survived by his loving wife, Reba Marshall; daughters, Stephanie Nance and husband Marcus, Natalie Marshall; grandchildren, Lena and Donavan Best; brothers, Roland Worrell, Leroy McDougal, Wesley Worrell; brothers -in- law, Rod and Mike Johnson; sisters, Pearl Best, Suzette Bolden; nephews and nieces, Estella Perkins, Maryann Core, Lorraine Best, Benny Best, Floyd Best, Crystal Parks, Jay England; dear great - nephews, Dwayne, Vell, Carlos, Marco and many dear friends. All of whom supported and loved him as he battled cancer these past three years. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Ray Williams, JD Worrell, William Patton; sister, Annie Margaret McDougal. Arrangements are with the West Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
