James "Pete" Lyles

James "Pete" Lyles, 86, of Gastonia, passed away August 29, 2016 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center.

He was born April 29, 1930 in Oconee County, SC, the son of the late Walter Edmond Lyles and Ula Marie Garrett Lyles.

Pete retired from Dixie Yarns in Gastonia.

Left to cherish his memories are his son Terry Lyles of Alcolu, SC; daughters Diane Bates, Faye Pilkington, Sherry Nix and Lisa Pope all of Gastonia; 1 brother; 3 sisters; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Glenda Jeanette Lyles; grandson Brian Lyles and sisters Blanche Lyles and Ruby Morris.

A funeral service, officiated by the Pastor Jeff Williams and speaker Ashleigh Herring will be held 3 pm Friday, September 2, at Greene Funeral Service – South Chapel – 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia.

The family will receive friends 6 – 8 pm Thursday at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Woodside Cemetery, Clover, SC.
