Rev. James Arthur Lowery

Rev. James Arthur Lowery, 78, of Gastonia passed away peacefully on March 11, 2013 at his home. He was born March 18, 1934 in Cowpens, SC son of the late Paul D. Lowery and Myrtle Lawings Lowery. Rev. Lowery was a member of Temple Baptist Church, Gastonia. James pastored for many years in North and South Carolina, the most recent churches he pastored were Chapel Grove Baptist Church, Gastonia for 26 years and Temple Baptist Church, Gastonia for 8 years. He served in the US Navy during the end of the Korean Conflict. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday at Temple Baptist Church,701 Littlejohn St., Gastonia officiated by Rev. Mike Lowery, Rev. Gregg Ballard. Music will be provided by Rev. Jonathan Lowery and Rev. Scott Whitener. The family will receive friends 6:00 - 9:00 pm on Wednesday at the church. Interment will be at Gaston Memorial Park, Gastonia. Rev. Lowery is survived by: his loving wife of 59 years, Peggy Sligh Lowery of the home; sons, Rev. Mike Lowery and wife Diane of Rock Hill, SC, Rev. Jonathan Lowery and wife Michelle of Charlotte; brother, Ed Lowery and wife Darlene of Charlotte; sister, Betty Cameron and husband Robert of York, SC; grandchildren, Lauren, Katie and Hannah Lowery. In addition to his parents Rev. Lowery was preceded in death by:sister, Doris Deese. Memorials may be sent to Temple Baptist Church, 701 Littlejohn St., Gastonia, NC 28052.
