James Robert Jordan

February 13, 1940 — September 25, 2016

James Robert Jordan, 76, passed away peacefully and with dignity, just as he wished, at the Robin Johnson Hospice House on September 25, 2016 surrounded by loving family. He was born February 13, 1940 to Irish Marie Jordan and James Houston Jordan in Gaffney, SC. Robert was a true lover of life.  He grew up in Gaston County and took Shelby Black as his bride on April 6, 1974. It was then he grew a mustache he promised never to shave. She was his one true love. They brought their families together to share four children, seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Robert loved his family and was very close to his sister, Mary Ann Price. He was known to be truly joyful just watching his grandchildren play in his yard.  He also loved his friends and saw them as family, welcoming anyone who visited his home with a bright smile.  Those who knew him well will recall his tendency to somehow always find something to paint, whether it was a whole house or just some old tools, as well as his silly affection for corny jokes, his love of gospel music, and ice cream. Robert worked many years building careers in HVAC and the natural gas industry, an achievement which gave him great pride (and which he would talk about with anyone willing to listen). He was a jack of all trades. A social butterfly, he had an open mind and was ahead of his time in many ways, eager to learn new things and discuss politics, as well as take a "selfie" with his granddaughter any chance he was given!  Robert lived a good life as a Godly man, with faith there was good in the world until his last breath.  He was a proud member of Gaston Baptist Church. His positive outlook was contagious, and he will be dearly missed by many. Preceded in death by his mother and father Irish Marie Jordan and James Houston Jordan; son Roger Jordan and sister Mary Ann Price. Survived by his wife of 42 years Shelby Jordan; daughter Rebecca Murphy; sons Dennis and Paul Moose; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A funeral service, officiated by Pastors Richard Gaddis and Hazel Boyd will be held, 2 pm Sunday, October 2, 2016 at Greene Funeral Service – South Chapel, 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia. The family will receive friends 6 – 8 pm Saturday at the funeral home. His final resting place will be in Gaston Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gaston Hospice (The Robin Johnson House) PO Box 3984, Gastonia, NC 28054. Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
