James Gene Howell, Sr.

James Gene Howell, Sr., 84, of Gastonia, passed away September 20, 2015 at his residence. He was born August 24, 1931, a native of Gaston County, the son of the late Matthews Harold Howell and Ceclia Howell and step-father Martin Van Browning. James was a Korean War veteran of the US army in the 82nd AirBorne. Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of over 64 years, Kathaleen Roseberry Howell; son, Junior Howell and wife Tracy; daughters, Kathy Jean and husband Blair, Teresa Wilson and husband Terry, Cecilia Darlene and husband Bruce, Geraldine Kroell and husband Christian; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Dick Hannah and Jack Browning and sisters, Louise Huffman and Billie Browning. A funeral service will be held 3 pm Thursday at Greene Funeral Service - South Chapel - 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia, officiated by Rev. Fain Farmer. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment with military honors by the Gaston County Honor Guard will be in Gaston Memorial Park.
