James "Pete" David Moore, 62, passed away September 28, 2014 at his residence. He was born November 8, 1951 in Portsmouth, VA, son of the late James Leonard Moore and Dottie McCullough Shaw. Pete was a US Army disabled veteran who fought in the Vietnam War. He served many years defending his country. Pete was a devoted American who always had a flag in his yard. He was formerly employed as a master mechanic with A&E for 14 years where he received perfect attendance and during that time he donated 6 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross. He was also a manager at Long Creek Mills. He loved his dogs, they were his babies. The family wishes to give special thanks to the Police, Fire, EMS Response Team and 911. Pete is survived by his wife of over 20 years, Alice Sellers Moore; step-son, Neil Hawkins of Casper, Wyoming; his babies, Sheba, a service companion dog; Evie Mae, Hattie Sue, Tisha and Sugar Baby; brother, Steve Moore and wife, Leona of Gastonia; sister, Katherine Glisson of Gastonia; grandchild, Chase Lee Hawkins of Casper, Wyoming and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Jan Moore Smith. A memorial service will be held 2 pm on Thursday at Greene Funeral Service - South Chapel - 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia, officiated by Reverend Millwood. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, Queen City #10, 2017 Bay Street, Charlotte, NC 28205. Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia. Military honors by US Army and Gaston County Honor Guard.
