James "Mick" Marshall Carpenter, 88, passed away on April 2, 2021.
He was born in Cramerton, North Carolina on February 8, 1933 to the late Julius "Odell" and Gracie Mae Small Carpenter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers (Howard, Elzie, Joe, Ralph), and his sister, Brenda Carpenter Thompson.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ann Wilson Carpenter; daughters and sons-in-law, Marsha Carpenter Griffin (Donnie), and Jamie Carpenter Bond (Tommy); two grandchildren, Natalie Grace and Zachary Thomas Bond; brother, Larry Carpenter; sister-in-law, Nancy Baucom Carpenter; brother-in-law, Reggie "R.C." Wilson; and many nieces and nephews.
He worked in the textile industry for 44 years, retiring from Dixie Yarns (Pinkney Mill) in 1995.
He had an admirable work ethic, working hard to provide for his family and being able to provide college educations for his daughters.
After retirement, he kept busy with yard work, plumbing, cooking, enjoyed watching NASCAR, and puttering around the house.
A funeral service, officiated by Rev. Michael Sepaugh, will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 7 at Greene Funeral Service, South Chapel, 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Gaston Memorial Park.
Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
