James Burris, Jr.

April 28, 1940 — April 5, 2021

James Clinton Burris, Jr., 80, of Gastonia, passed away on Monday, April 5, 2021 at the Robin Johnson House in Dallas.

He was born on April 28, 1940, in Gaston County, to the late James Clinton Burris, Sr. and Mabel Benfield Burris.

James was a great husband, father, and friend. He loved fishing, going to the flea market, and hunting golf balls. James was a truck driver for many years of his life.

In addition to his parents, James is preceded in death by sisters, Kay Burris and Alice Philbeck; brothers, Jerry, and Glen Burris; sons, Doug Crisp and Dale Burris; stepdaughters, Lisa Spencer, and Angela Lee; and grandson, Gene Crisp and Garren Spencer.

Left to cherish James' memories are his loving wife, Merline Burris; sons, David Burris, Terry Spencer and wife Tabitha, Shane Burris and wife Lisa, James Burris, III; sister, Janice Philbeck and husband Leonard; daughter, Cindy Rose; 11 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service officiated by Rev. Jeff Hicks, will be held 12 pm on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service – 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia, NC 28052.

Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Burial will be held at Gaston Memorial Park, Gastonia.
