James "Marvin" Braswell Sr.

James "Marvin" Braswell, Sr., 84, of Gastonia, passed away January 29, 2018 at Belaire Health Care Center.

He was born June 14, 1933, a native of Gaston County, the son of the late Johnny Henry Braswell and Lessie Wynes Braswell.

Marvin was a veteran of the United States Army.  He was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Gastonia. He retired as a Master Maintenance Machinist with Freightliner.

He loved to pass the time hunting, fishing, playing golf, traveling and spending time at the beach with his late wife.

Left to cherish his memories are his son, Jimmy Braswell and wife, Tammy; daughter, Kristy Braswell Humphries and husband John; brothers Ted and Byron Braswell; sisters, Margaret Walker, Brenda Farr, BarbaraDean Raxter; grandchildren, Mikayla and Zachary Humphries, Stephanie Hedrick and Michelle Davidson and great-grandchildren Caleb Cruz, Ethan Wiegert and Faith Davidson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Braswell and son, Stephen Braswell.

A funeral service will be held 1 pm Friday, February 2, 2018 at Victory Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Sam Mintz.

The family will receive friends 6 – 8 pm Thursday at Greene Funeral Service – South Chapel, 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia.

Marvin will be laid to rest next to his late wife, Ruby in Gaston Memorial Park.
