James Edward "Boone" Powell

James Edward "Boone" Powell, 67, of Gastonia, passed away January 7, 2015 at Caromont Regional Medical Center. He was born October 13, 1947 a native of Gaston County, son of the late Ottoway Edward and Tula Mae Metcalf Powell. James is survived by his daughters, Renee Powell and Mona Meeks; brothers Nelson and Cotton Powell; sister, Rachel Powell Moss; 5 granddaughters; 1 grandson; 7 great-granddaughters; 6 great-grandsons; special friends, David Jolly and the Gentry Family. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Jewell Darlene Powell and daughter, Billie Meeks. A funeral service will be held 2:30 pm Sunday at Greene Funeral Service - South Chapel - 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia, officiated by the Rev. Jeff Taylor. Visitation will be held 1:30 - 2:15 pm prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Gaston Memorial Park.
