James "Ray Adams", 91, of Waynesville, passed away on September 23, 2017, at his home.
He was born July 21, 1926, in Bessemer City, NC, son of the late Brown McGee Adams and Ressie Valentine Adams.
Mr. Adams was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Waynesville. He was baptized at Bethea United Methodist Church in Bessemer City in 1993 and was confirmed into the Episcopal Church in 1996.
He had three beautiful children, who he raised with his wife Carletta.
When he served as a soldier in the Merchant Marines, Ray helped carry supplies to soldiers during World War II and he belonged to the National Maritime Union of America. He enjoyed being an amateur radio operator.
He served as a mason for 58 years.
A memorial service will be held 1:00pm Wednesday, September 27, 2017, at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church 1303 N. 12th Street Bessemer City officiated by the Rev. Connie Connelly.
The family will receive friends after the service at the church.
Mr. Adams is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Marjorie Cook Cole Adams; sons, Jim Adams and wife, Cathy, Seth Cole and partner, Katie Allen; daughters, Patricia A. Dellinger and husband, Larry, Sharon A. Selman, Maribeth Cole and partner, Heidi Yates; brothers, Jerry Daniel Adams and wife, Ruth, George Glenn Adams and wife, Sharon; grandchildren, Darrell, Misty, Jonathan, Mia, Amanda, Alexander (AJ), Harper, Aimee; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Chris, Ayden, Chloe, Tristan.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Carletta Foster Adams; brother, Harry Adams; sister, Frances Lanier.
