Jack Reuben Costner

Jack Reuben Costner, 89, of Bessemer City, went home to be with Jesus on March 23, 2021, at his home.

He was born October 9, 1931, in Gaston County, son of the late William and Susan Mitchem Costner.

Jack was a member of Union Road Church of God in Gastonia. He loved his family and his church.

He was an avid golfer and enjoyed watching the Duke Blue Devils.

He proudly served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict.

A funeral service will be held 3:00 pm Friday March 26, 2021, at Union Road Church, 2315 Union Rd. Gastonia, officiated by Pastor Lee Claypoole.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial will be at Westview Gardens, Bessemer City, with military honors provided by the US Navy and the Gaston County Honor Guard.

Jack is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Lillie Murray Costner; son, Dennis Costner(Kathy); daughter, Linda Costner Thomas(Terry); sister, Lena Freeman; grandchildren, Bobby Costner(Julie), Scotty Costner (Audrey), Regina Crayton (Lance), Michael Costner, Todd Thomas, Brent Thomas, Kelly Thomas, Paula Costner; great-grandchildren, Kelsey Costner, Adison Costner, Emily Costner, Leanna Crayton, Emily Crayton, Gavin Thomas, Kylie Thomas, Caleb Costner; great-great-grandchildren, Jaxson and Dominick Thomas; numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jeff Costner; siblings, Clayton and Clyde Costner, Mae Heavener, Shirley Bowen.

Arrangements are with the West Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
