Irene Shires Miller, of Bessemer City, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on August 15, 2026. She was born in Gaston County on October 13, 1938, to the late William "Joe" and Martha Hilton Shires.
Irene lived a life rooted deeply in her faith, her family, and her love for others. She was a faithful servant of the Lord and devoted much of her life to Christian ministry. She was a member of Independent Baptist Tabernacle in Dallas, where she faithfully taught Sunday School. She also taught school at both Tabernacle School and Gospel Baptist Church. Her love for the Lord was evident in the way she lived her life, and her faith was a blessing and an inspiration to those who knew her.
Above all, Irene treasured her family. She found great joy in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandson, and her love for them will remain a cherished part of their lives forever.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Bobby Miller, Jr. (Martha), Linda Miller, Robin Bass (Gary), Samantha Alvizar (Alex), and Christy Nagy (Howard); her grandchildren, Stephen Miller, April Boyd (Tyler), Justin Bass, Jordan Self, Eric Alvizar, Jessalyn Alvizar, Lewis Martin Jr., Emma Nagy, and Kinsley Nagy; and her great-grandson, Isaac Alvizar.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Bobby Miller, Sr., Irene was preceded in death by her brother, Don Shires.
A funeral service celebrating Irene's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Independent Baptist Tabernacle. The service will be officiated by Pastor Brian Spargo and Pastor Michael Spargo. Irene will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Bobby Miller, Sr., in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at the church.
Irene leaves behind a beautiful legacy of faith, love, family, and service to her Lord. Her gentle spirit, her devotion to her family, and the love she shared with so many will not be forgotten. Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing that she is now at home with the Lord she loved and faithfully served.
"May the love Irene had for her family and friends always be remembered in our hearts."
Greene Funeral Service, West Chapel, located at 216 Archie Whitesides Road Gastonia is honored to be serving the Miller family.
