Howard "Leon" Lay

Leon Lay, 79, of Dallas, passed away on Monday, March 1, 2021, at Caromont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia.

He was born on April 12, 1941, in Gaston County, to the late Howard William Lay and Rachel Putman Baldwin.

Leon was preceded in death by his father and stepmother, Howard and Katherine Lay; mother, Rachel Baldwin; and brother, Joe Lay.

Left to cherish Mr. Lay's memories are his loving wife of 62 years, Elaine Lay; sons, James Lay and wife Karen, Richard Lay and wife Donna, and Jeff Lay and wife Connie; sister, Kay Cash; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service for Leon, officiated by Pastor Heath Honeycutt, will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, March 4, 2021, at Long Creek Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the organization of the donor's choice or to Long Creek Memorial Baptist Church – 210 Long Creek Church Rd, Dallas, NC 28034.
