Howard Leon Conrad, 78, of Bessemer City passed away July 19, 2014 at home. He was born October 19, 1935 in Gaston County, son of the late Henry Dewitt Conrad and Cora Holland Conrad. Leon was a veteran of the US Army and served during the Korean War. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. He was a gentle, caring and giving soul. Mr. Conrad was a lifelong member of Holland Memorial Baptist Church, Bessemer City. He was employed by Westvaco for many years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: his wife of 52 years, Betty Davis Conrad; daughter, Teresa Conrad Indharasophang; sisters, Nancy Conrad, Hazel Pope, Lela Calhoun, Joann Fox, Lille Willard, Bertha Jarvis; brother, Ronnie Conrad. Survivors include, children, Susan Lee and Steve Rector of Bessemer City, Mark Conrad of Gastonia, Lisa Howard and husband Tim of Clover, SC; brother, James Conrad and wife Sandie of Kings Mountain; grandchildren, Justin Fraley, Brittany Morris, Jonathan and Alyssa Conrad,Seth and Eric Howard, Travis, Wesley, Ashley and Ponzie Indharasophang, great grandchildren, Emma Grace Conrad, Leila Diane Indharasophang. A funeral service will be held 3:00 on Tuesday at Greene Funeral Service, West Chapel, 216 Archie Whitesides Rd., Gastonia officiated by the Reverends Robert Fraley and Olita Conrad. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Westview Gardens, Bessemer City, with military honors. Pallbearers will be Justin Fraley, Jonathan Conrad, Travis Indharasophang, Wesley Indharasophang, Jason Conrad, Jeff Rayfield. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Gaston Hospice P.O. Box 3984 Gastonia, NC 28054. Arrangements are with the West Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
