Homer James Grant

Gastonia Homer James Grant went to be with the Lord on April 3, 2015. He was born February 20, 1929 in Swain County to the late Edward H. Grant, Sr. and Nellie Grant, and spent most of his life in Gaston County. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Pauline "Polly"; sisters, infant Mary Magdalene, Pauline G. Stiles, Christine G. Hedgepeth and Margaret G. Smith; brother, Ed. Grant; and stepdaughter, Judy Pearson. He is survived by his wife, Mary; daughters, Paulette G. Haynes and husband, Joe and Sandra G. Martinez and Frank; son, Kenneth J. Grant and wife Rhonda; stepsons, Wayne Sanders and wife, Charlotte, Eugene Sanders and wife, Marion, Mike Minton and wife Phyllis; grandchildren, Jeremy Haynes and wife Stephanie; Jolee H. Toms and husband, Kris; Brittany and Kayla Martinez, Kenneth Grant, Jr. and wife, Christine, Lacy G. Bald and husband, Bill; great grandchildren, Kyndell and Tristan Haynes, Kaylee and Kaleb Toms, Anais, Cowen and Chris Bald, MiaBella Martinez, Rylee, Taylor and Keegan Grant; brother-in-law, Henry Smith; sister, Vergie G. Walls; and several nieces and nephews. Homer loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a member, choir director and taught Sunday school at Beech Avenue Baptist Church. He served in the US Army a Korean War Veteran and a member and Past Master of Masonic Lodge 369, Gastonia and an Oasis Shriner. Homer worked in several areas of the Sheriff Department, and also in textiles. A celebration of life service will be held 4:00 pm on Monday at Beech Avenue Church, 1206 W Ashton Ave, Gastonia, officiating Rev. Jeff Cook. The family will receive friends, 2:30 - 3:45 pm before the service at the church. A celebration of life service will also be held 2:30 pm on Tuesday at Silvermine Baptist Church, 2370 Silvermine Rd, Bryson City. Interment will be held at Wisser Cemetery in Swain County with Military Honors and full Masonic Rites.. Memorials may be made to Beech Avenue Baptist Church, 1206 W. Ashton Avenue, Gastonia, NC 28052 or Silvermine Baptist Church, 2370 Silvermine Road, Bryson City, NC 28713. Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
