Herman Ray Emory, 80, of Gastonia, passed away on January 18, 2021, at his home.
He was born December 31, 1940, in Gaston County, son of the late Benjamin Emory and Catherine Rhyne Emory.
Herman was a wonderful husband, father, brother, and friend, as well as a loving and caring grandfather and great-grandfather.
He loved all sports, but his most favorite was baseball.
In Herman's early years, growing up in the early 40's and 50's he played baseball and was in many baseball tournaments and played in the Little League World Series.
He loved his Atlanta Braves as well as the North Carolina Tarheels.
A graveside service will be held 1:00 pm Thursday, January 21, 2021, at Hollywood Cemetery, Gastonia, officiated by Pastor David MacEachern.
Herman will lie in state 9-11 Thursday, January 21, 2021, at Greene Funeral Service, West Chapel, 216 Archie Whitesides Rd. Gastonia.
Herman is survived by his daughter, Charlene Raye Emory Friday; his son, Jeffrey Scott Emory and wife Patricia Kell Emory; brothers, Rick Emery and wife Ann, Darrell Emory and wife Jan, Keith "Ken" Emery and Gail; grandchildren, Jeffery A. Lindsay, Christopher Lindsay, Kimberly, Michael and Douglas Emory, Larry Armstrong Jr.; great-grandchildren, Dean and Emma Carpenter.
In addition to his parents, Herman was preceded in death by his wife of over 58 years, Mary Emory.
Arrangements are with the West Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
