Henry Franklin Forbes, a devoted husband, father, and esteemed veteran, passed away in Gastonia, North Carolina, on February 2, 2026. He was 76 years old. Born on March 6, 1947, in North Carolina, Henry dedicated his life to serving his country and supporting his family.
A proud member of the first graduating class of Hunter Huss High School in 1965, Henry was an active participant in the Boy Scouts, where he earned recognition as a member of the Order of the Arrow. Following his high school graduation, he honorably served in the United States Air Force for 21 years as a Radar Technician, ultimately attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. His commitment to excellence and service left an indelible mark not only in the military but also in the lives of those who knew him.
After completing his military service, Henry transitioned to civilian life, working as an electrician for 27 years at Huffman Corporation in Clover, South Carolina. His technical skills and unwavering work ethic earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and peers.
Henry found joy in the simplest moments, whether it was caring for his family or engaging in conversations with friends. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Alice Forbes; his sons, James "Jimmy" Cunningham (Marcy) and Jeffery Forbes (Tammy); his daughter, Laurie Howard (Charlie); sister, Charlotte Matherlee (Thomas); brothers, Wilson "Bill" Forbes Jr (Loretta), David S Forbes; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Henry's life will be celebrated in a memorial service to be held on Sunday, February 15, 2026, 3:30 PM at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service. Visitation will be from 2:00 - 3:00 PM prior to the service. Friends and family are invited to honor his memory with a ceremony that reflects his remarkable journey and the profound impact he had on all who knew him.
