Hazel Litha Mitchem

Hazel Litha Mitchem, 86, of Gastonia, passed away May 15, 2017 at Caromont Regional Medical Center.

She was born, in Cleveland County on January 21, 1931, the daughter of the late Edward "Buck" Emanuel and Edith Herlong Floyd.

Hazel was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

Left to cherish her memories are her son, David Herndon and wife Linda of Wilson; daughter, Lisa Westbay and husband Steve of Gastonia; brother, Jack Floyd and wife Ruth of Greensboro; grandchildren Anna Starcala, Chase McCaskill, Matthew Herndon, Elizabeth and Michael Westbay and Robert Cunningham; great-grandchildren, Stella and Bennett Starcala.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Eaker and husband Dan Mitchem.

A funeral service, officiated by the Rev. Dickie Spargo, will be held 11 am Thursday at Greene Funeral Service – South Chapel, 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

A graveside service, officiated by the Rev. Steve Black will follow at Gaston Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gaston Hospice, PO Box 3984, Gastonia, NC 28054.
