Hazel Burgess Currie

Hazel Burgess Currie, 95, of Gastonia, NC, passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Terra Bella Cramer Mountain, Cramerton, NC.

She was born July 23, 1927, in Cherokee Co, NC, daughter of the late Bird and Dora Wilson.

Hazel was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church, Lowell, for many years. She was active in the Lowell Community and worked for Lowell Drug, Ivey's, and Smith Drug for many years. In her late years she worked for the Gaston County Museum.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James O. Burgess; sons, David, Donnie, and Ronnie Burgess; grandson, Mike Burgess; siblings, Blaine Wilson, Wade Wilson, Coleman Wilson, Mae McElroy, Burdell Freeman, and Ella Rhodes.

Hazel is survived by her son, James "Jim" Burgess, Jr.; daughter, Sheree Hall (Willie); grandchildren, David Burgess (Chris), Melissa Ward (Chris), Tara Cooper, James Burgess, III, Jason Burgess (Jan), Julie McConnell, Justin Burgess, Missy Crowley, Tracy Dellinger (Shannon), William Hall (Wendy); and Coree Hall; and great-grandchildren, Samantha Burgess, Kirsten Ward, Mia Ward, Lance Cooper, Blair Burgess, Alex McConnell, Victoria McConnell, Miranda Crowley, Jacob Crowley, Jordan Gibbie, Nate Hall, Trey Hall, Andrew Hall, Sage Hall.

A graveside service officiated by Pastor Dickie Spargo, will be held 1 pm, Saturday, May 20, 2023, at Gaston Memorial Park, Gastonia.
