Obituary

SFC, USA (Ret) Harvey Edward Nathaniel Blakley Sr. was born in Jolo, WV to David M. Blakley and Rosa L. Woody on July 20, 1951, and was called home to be with Jesus on July 12, 2026.

He was a devoted husband of 42 years to Patricia Blakley and a loving father to his three stepdaughters, Donna Jones, Deanna McQuillen and Melissa Fisher; grandfather to 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was also a great influence and father to his niece, Alisha Heavner.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Harvey Edward Blakley Jr.

SFC Blakley had a career in the US Army of 33 years. He was proud of his service and had a deep love for his country.

Harvey was also dedicated to serving the Lord in whatever capacity he could; wherever in the world he was stationed. Prior to his illness he was currently an active member of Christ Global Methodist Church in Gastonia.

His sense of humor was unsurpassed and a little on the quirky side. He kept his family and friends on their toes. His smile and laugh will be sorely missed.

None of us become who we are entirely on our own. If you look closely, you'll find pieces of other people in who you've become. Their kindness. Their encouragement. Their belief in you. Long after people leave our lives, parts of them often stay behind in us.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Greene Funeral Service, West Chapel, 216 Archie Whitesides Road Gastonia. The family will receive friends 10-11 prior to the service. The burial will be at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery in Mount Holly, with military honors provided by the US Army and the Gaston County Honor Guard.
