Harry Ligon Harbin, 92, of Gastonia, passed away Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Caromont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia.
He was born in Anderson County, SC on February 23, 1931, to the late W. W. and Martha Harbin.
Mr. Harbin was a former member of First Baptist Church of Belmont. He was also a member of American Legion Post 262 in Charlotte. Mr. Harbin was a veteran of the United States Air Force, where he served as a paramedic on a helicopter transport. He retired in 1987 from Duke Energy. "I'll always remember the day I was employed by Duke Power," said Harry. "That same day my daughter was born-two memorable occasions." Harbin began his employment with Duke as a clerk responsible for the electrical shack at Lee Steam Station. He worked at many company plant sites and progressed through the ranks of the electrical craft to become a construction electrician foreman, where he worked at McGuire construction.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Harbin is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Faye Minyard Harbin, who passed away May 22, 2006; son, Ronnie Eugene Harbin; daughters, Cynthia Ann Harbin, and Susan Terry Harbin; grandson, Jesse Harbin; brothers, Pete Harbin, Bill Harbin, and Bob Harbin; and sisters, Helen Barbara, Edner Johnson, Margaret Stewart, and Dot Spearman.
Mr. Harbin is survived by his son, Harry Lee Harbin and wife Janet; grandchildren, Jason Simonds and wife Melissa, Casey Simonds and wife Ashley, Cruz Harbin, Scotty Harbin, and Crystal Radford and husband Frank; great grandchildren, Aron Harbin, Meagan Radford, Nathon Radford, Chase Simonds, Sarah Simonds, Corey Simonds, Colten Griffin, Kinsley Harbin, Karliegh Harbin; and great-great-grandchild, Jaxton King.
The family will receive friends Thursday, January 11, 2024, at 1:00-2:00 pm at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service, 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia, NC. A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Harbin, officiated by Rev. Dickie Spargo, will be held 2:00 pm at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service. Interment will follow the service with military rights by the US Air Force and Gaston County Honor Guard, at Gaston Memorial Park, 1200 South New Hope Road, Gastonia, NC.
