It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Harrison "Red" Messer on August 26, 2026, at the age of 69. Born on June 27, 1957, son of the late Paul and Helen Messer. Red resided in York, South Carolina, where he was a cherished member of the community.

Red was a proud veteran of the United States Army, dedicating his life to serving his country. His legacy of courage and commitment will forever be remembered. He earned an Associate's Degree, demonstrating his passion for learning and personal growth.

A devoted member of the York Church of God, Red's faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him in his interactions with others. He was known not only for his warmth and generosity but also for his infectious spirit. If you met him once, you were no longer a stranger; he had a remarkable ability to connect with people and make everyone feel welcome.

Red had a passion for golf, often found on the greens, enjoying the sport with friends and family. He also embraced the joys of rural life, becoming a regular goat wrangler, nurturing his love for animals and the outdoors.

Red is survived by his loving niece, Christina Flynn and her husband, Norman.

In addition to his parents, Red was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kathleen Messer; and his brother, Jeffery Scott Messer.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm on Sunday, August, 30, 2026, at Greene Funeral Service, West Chapel, 216 Archie Whitesides Road Gastonia. Burial will follow the service at Gaston Memorial Park in Gastonia.

In this time of sorrow, we remember Harrison "Red" Messer as a man who embraced life fully and touched the hearts of many. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever remain in our memories.
