Guy Austin Yeargin

Guy Austin Yeargin, 89, of Gastonia passed away Saturday, August 15, 2015 at Caromont Regional Medical Center. He was born September 9, 1925 in Anderson County, SC, son of the late, Eugene Arthur Yeargin and Mattie Bell Bolt Yeargin, where he was one of twelve children, the last remaining child of his parents. Mr. Yeargin was the loving husband of the late Lillian Rachel Earle Yeargin and loving father of Mike, Tony and Timothy Yeargin. Guy was a member of Covenant Baptist Church, and former member of 1st Baptist Church of Gastonia. He graduated from Clemson University and was owner and operator of Yeargin Architects. Guy was an US Army veteran. He entered WWII in 1944, was wounded in France, captured and taken to Luckenwalde POW camp for three months. When being transferred to another camp he and several others escaped and made their way back to Allied forces. Mr. Yeargin was awarded the Purple Heart for his injuries. Left to cherish his memories are his sons, Mike Yeargin and spouse Nancy of Greenville, SC and their children Tammy Yeargin, Mitch Yeargin, Mary Katherine Radin; Tony Yeargin and spouse Sally, of Matthews, NC and their children, Aaron Yeargin and spouse, Megan, Hayley Yeargin; Timothy Yeargin and spouse Bernie, of Gastonia, and their children Brandon and Nick Yeargin. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Lillian Rachael Earle Yeargin. A memorial service will be held 12:00 pm Saturday at Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, South Chapel 1503 S. York Road. Gastonia, officiated by the Rev. Olin Byrum III. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Covenant Baptist Church, 3131 Erskine Drive, Gastonia, NC 28054. Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
