Gregory Allen Petty

Gregory Allen Petty of Gastonia went home to be with the Lord on September 20, 2020 at the age of 71.

He was born in Toombs County, GA on August 28, 1949 to the late John L. Petty and Corene Morris Petty.

He is survived by his wife, Bennie; his five sons, Randy Humphries and wife Cathy, David Humphries and wife Barbara, Dwayne Clark, Leander Petty and wife Traci, and Zane Petty and wife Nicole.  He was the proud grandfather to 15 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Linda Payseur and husband David; brother, Wendel Petty; and a niece and nephew.

Gregg was a loving and devoted husband often writing love letters and poems to Bennie even after 44 years of marriage.  They spent decades ministering to the homebound and residents of area retirement homes.  He had a life long love of history and was a proud member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans where he often shared his family's heritage.  He always taught his sons to read the Bible and pray.  He had a deep love for Jesus that he also enjoyed sharing with his family.

A graveside service, officiated by his son, Zane Petty, will be held Wednesday, September 22, 2020 at 2:30 pm at Olney Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Gastonia.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the cemetery.
