Gladys Norene Hill Chavis

June 26, 1927 — October 22, 2014

Gastonia - Gladys Norene Hill Chavis went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 22, 2014. She was born in Gaston County to the late Horace Creswell Hill and Nora Irene Lyles Hill. She was also preceded in death by nine siblings and her husband Albert Daniel "Sam" Chavis and children Albert Daniel "A.D" Chavis, Jr, Linda Kay Hunter and Hilda Faye Chavis. Left to cherish her memory are her half brother Charles Ernest Hill, four grandchildren Lisa Hunter, David Smith, Amy Blankenship (Ray) Holly Chavis Carroll (Ladd) and eight great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs Chavis was a longtime member of Living Word Tabernacle in Bessemer City. She was an accomplished singer. Her sense of humor delighted all who knew and loved her. Her faith, family and friends were dear to her heart. She was most proud of her employment as a nursing assistant at the Orthopedic Hospital in Gastonia during the Polio epidemic. Receiving of friends will be held 12:30 - 2:00 on Saturday at Greene Funeral Service, 216 Archie Whitesides Rd, Gastonia. The going home celebration will follow at 2:00 p.m. officiated by Pastor Tim Humes, the Revs. Richard Douglas and Jewell Forney. Interment will be at Armstrong Cemetery, Gastonia. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Carolyn Proctor for her special friendship and loving care of Gladys, especially during the last several months. Special thanks also to her friends at Brookdale on Union Road. Memorials may be sent to Living Word Tabernacle 4432 Kings Mountain Highway, Bessemer City, NC 28016. Arrangements are with the West Chapel of Greene Funeral and Crematorium, Gastonia.
