George E. Ward Sr.

Bessemer City, NC George E. Ward Sr., 84, passed away Monday, January 20, 2014 at his residence. Mr. Ward was born February 10, 1929 in Oconee County, SC to the late Jesse Lewis and Nettie Ladd Ward. He was a US Army Veteran serving in the Korean War. He loved to garden and was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. A funeral service will be held 11:00 on Thursday at Greene Funeral Service West Chapel 216 Archie Whitesides Rd. Gastonia, with the Pastor Tim Goates officiating. Interment will follow at Westview Gardens, Bessemer City. The family will receive friends 6 -8 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Ward in survived by his loving wife of 63 years,Wilma Edwards Ward, sons, Junior Ward and wife Deann, Gastonia, Jeffery Scott Ward, Gastonia, daughters,Melanie Suzette Baldwin, Baton Rouge, LA, Vicky Lynn Caldwell and husband Tony, Belmont, Michelle Ward Fuller and husband Gordon, Kings Mtn, daughters in-law, Lynn Ward, Judy Ware; brothers, Wallace, Allen, Glenn, Laylon and Joe Ward, sisters, Ellen Ann Simison, Mae Ledford, Corinda Simmons, 18 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son in-law, Jesse Baldwin and numerous brothers and sisters.
