George L. Bradshaw

George L. "Sonny" Bradshaw Jr., 69, of Lincolnton, passed away June 27, 2015, at his residence. He was born June 10, 1946, in Gaston County, son of the late George Leon Bradshaw Sr. and Effie Sarah Jane Spencer Bradshaw. Mr. Bradshaw loved his family. He enjoyed going to the beach and loved to spend his time fishing and camping. He was a gentle giant, always calm and willing to do anything for others. Mr. Bradshaw was a native of Gaston County. He attended Hunter Huss High School and earned a business management degree from Biscayne Southern College. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Korea. He retired from Freight Liner over 20 years ago as a QA Tech and was affiliated with West Fifth Avenue Freewill Baptist Church. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Sue Pate, and brother-in-law, Gene "Butter" Jenkins. Left to cherish his memories are his wife of over 27 years, Carolyn Bradshaw; daughters, Kelly Bradshaw Horne (Lee), Janet Cole (Rev. Richard), Donna Thomas (Jamie); sister, Helen Jenkins, brother-in-law, Jerry Pate; 5 special grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren; One grandchild who loved to just be with Papaw George everywhere he went was Harleigh Marie Smith. She was always right there with him, and the bond between these two will forever be remembered. The family will receive friends 6-8pm on Tuesday at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service, 1503 South York Rd, Gastonia. A celebration of life service will be held 11am on Wednesday, at the funeral home with Military Honors, officiating the Rev. Richard Cole. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Fifth Avenue Freewill Baptist Church, 2145 West Fifth Ave. Gastonia, NC 28052. Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
