It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gary Ray Hess, who left us on March 23, 2025, at the age of 69. Born on April 27, 1955, in Salisbury, North Carolina, Gary lived a life rich with love, adventure, and dedication. He called Gastonia home, where he found joy in both the simple and the extraordinary.
Gary was a devoted husband to his beloved spouse, Sheila Hess, and a proud father to his daughter, Erin Walser, son, Ryan Hess, and stepdaughter's, Jessica Colton and Casey Hudson. He cherished his role as a grandfather to Madison, Loghan, Cooper, Emma, Colton, and Anderson, always making time for family gatherings filled with laughter and stories. His spirit of warmth extended to all who had the pleasure of knowing him, including his sister-in-law, Debbie Gosnell.
With a heart that embraced nature, Gary found peace in the great outdoors, indulging his love for landscaping and carpentry. He had a special way of transforming spaces into beautiful havens, and he took pride in every project he undertook. Whether it was exploring new places or enjoying the companionship of his cats and dogs, Gary truly lived life to the fullest.
Gary's family wishes to honor his memory through a funeral service that will take place on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, 1:00 PM, at City Church in Gastonia. Friends and loved ones are invited to join in celebrating Gary's life and the many ways he touched our hearts.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and a deep appreciation for the beauty of life in all its forms. Although he will be dearly missed, his spirit will live on in the cherished memories and values he instilled in those he loved.
In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates any donations to a local shelter or charity in Gary's name, reflecting his compassion for animals and community.
Rest in peace, dear Gary. Your journey continues in the hearts of us all.
