Garland "Richard" Shuford

Garland "Richard" Shuford, 90, of Gastonia, passed away November 7, 2015 at Carolina's Medical Center. He was born September 18, 1925 in Gaston County, the son of the late Winslow Sylvester Shuford and Sally Jane Shuford. Richard was a member of Chapel Grove Church of God in Gastonia. He was a devoted Christian, who loved the Lord. Garland was a WWII US Army Veteran. He was captured in Belgium by the German government on December 29, 1944 and remained a prisoner of war until June 29, 1945. Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of over 48 years, Carolyn Shuford; children Nina Dodgen, Wayne, Barry, Gary, Ric and Lee Shuford; daughter-in-laws Susanne and Vickie Shuford and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held 2 pm Saturday at Chapel Grove Church of God, 4639 Chapel Grove School Rd., Gastonia, officiated by Pastor Bart Stone with military honors by the Gaston County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project - PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675. Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
