Garland "Jack" Bailey Ensley

Garland "Jack" Bailey Ensley, 68, of Gastonia, passed away March 30, 2025, at Caromont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, NC.

He was born August 26, 1956, in Gaston County, NC to the late Paul and Minnie Ensley.

Garland was a member of Fraley Memorial Baptist Church in the Smyre Community. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, Dale Earnhardt racing, Duke Basketball, and the Green Bay Packers.

Some of his fondest memories while growing up were listening to his daddy at the kitchen table picking his guitar, and watching his momma fix hair in her beauty shop at the house. He grew up in the Smyre Mill village. He also enjoyed visiting his grandparents at the cabin with the whole family.

Two of his most treasured lessons from his parents were "What's right is right and wrong is wrong," and "Pretty is as pretty does."

Some of Garland's treasured accomplishments were his high school education and graduating from Bethel Colony of Mercy. His most important accomplishment was accepting Jesus as his Lord and Savior with guidance from Leon Nicholson at Fraley Memorial Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Garland was preceded in death by his siblings, Ronnie Graham, Polly Braddy, Paul Wilson Ensley Jr., and Lonnie "Baby Joe" Ensley; and niece, Karli Elliott.

Garland is survived by his daughters, Amanda Davis and husband J.R., Jacqueline Parton and husband Lee; son, Colt Ensley; grandchildren, Syerra Greene, Lexie Hoppes, Jacob Parton, Julia Parton, Jalee Parton, Blayden Parton; great-grandchild Layvin Ensley; and sister, Beverly "Bessie" Elliott and husband, Jim; a special niece, Lori Walton and her father, Mike Root.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, 6:00-8:00 pm, at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service, 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia, NC 28052. A service to celebrate Garland's life will be held Thursday, April 3, 2025 at 11:00 am, officiated by Pastor Josh Holder.
