Frances Marie Pope

We are saddened to announce the passing of Frances "Marie" Pope, who left this world on February 14, 2025, at the age of 93. Marie was born on July 4, 1931, in Franklin NC to the late Fred and Esther Crisp and spent her later years in Gastonia NC.

Marie was the beloved mother to son, Ronnie Pope (Trudy); sister, Lena Wooten; Grandchildren, Amy Gardner (Lee), Dannie Pope, Anthony Pope (Lauren), April Pate (Robert), Lynn Scott, and Greg Gardner; Great-grandchildren, Josh Hill, Jamie Gardner, SaraBeth Gardner (Church), Easten Pope, Deakin Pope, Braylon Pope, Ashtyn Pope, Nathan Oxendine, Telinda Pate, Jadon Canady, Jacob Scott, Darrius McKoy, and Jadarrion McKoy; Great-great-grandchild, Zeb Lee Paul Banner.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Pope; daughter, Linda Pope Scott; brother, Virgil Crisp; sisters, Christine Classen, Wilma Jean "Wimpy" Crisp, and Velma Ervin.

Marie was known for her love of nature and spent countless hours tending to her garden and flowers. She had a passion for square dancing and often took delight in the activities of her church, where she was a devoted member of Westview Baptist Church in Gastonia NC.

In her younger days, Marie enjoyed rides on a motorcycle with her husband, embracing her love for adventure. She had a special place in her heart for the mountains where she and Henry loved to go camping.

A visitation will be held at Greene Funeral Service South Chapel on Monday, February 24, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, giving friends and family a chance to gather and share memories. The graveside service will take place at Gaston Memorial Park Mausoleum on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at 11:00 AM, where she will be laid to rest, being reunited with her husband.

Marie's spirit and love for life will continue to inspire those who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
