Faye Baker Carpenter

December 13, 1966 — February 10, 2020

Faye Baker Carpenter, 53, passed away on February 10, 2020 at Novant Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte, NC.
She was born December 13, 1966 in Gaston County, NC to the late Larry and Julie Baker.
She was the youth pastor at The Place Church in Gastonia, NC. Faye Carpenter, aka "Big Mama" was a strong woman with an even stronger faith. She served in children's ministries beginning in her teenage years, eventually becoming a children's church minister and then later on a youth pastor. She served as a youth pastor for the past 17 years, mentoring hundreds of children and teens. She was ordained as a minister of the gospel through Providence House International Ministries. Faye married her childhood sweetheart, Scott, when she was 18, and became a mother to 3 headstrong children, and mother-in-law to their spouses. She instilled in her children a strong faith and the ability to speak their minds. She was Mamaw Faye to 5 grandchildren (with one more on the way), caring for them hours every week. She was able to see life through the eyes of a child, always knowing how to have fun. She almost always had a smile and laugh to offer and taught those around her to face adversity with joy. She was one of six siblings to whom she was very close. She had a unique mrelationship with each one. She was often the "bossy one," and was able to get away with it because she did it with a smile. She was Aunt Faye to 20 nieces and nephews. She loved extreme couponing and finding bargains. She never met a stranger and would often leave the grocery store having made a new friend. She was a loving mother who lived the faith she taught in front of her children, even when others would have given up. She was quick to forgive, discerning, and always spoke her mind. She was a faithful friend to many. She will be remembered for many things, but most of all for her ability to make us laugh and teach us to find joy in the small things.
Faye is survived by her husband of over 34 years Scott Carpenter; one son Tyler Carpenter (Brooke); two daughters Amanda Pritchett (Travis), Anna Morgan (Jacob); two brothers Larry Baker Jr. (Angie), Allen Baker (Nancy); two sisters Rena Chambers (Tim), Cathy Baker; mother-in-law Faye M. Carpenter; five grandchildren Caroline Pritchett, Jake Pritchett, Sadie Byrd Carpenter; Waylon Morgan, and Wyatt Carpenter.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her brother Ricky Baker.
A funeral will be held Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 1:00 pm at Ridge Baptist Church, 3818 Old York Road, Gastonia, NC. Burial will follow at Westview Gardens, Bessemer City, NC.
The family will receive friends 11:00 am until 1:00 pm prior to the service at the church.
