Eugene "E.J." Lane

Eugene "E.J." Jackson Lane, 74, of Gastonia, passed away August 1, 2015 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center. He was born January 4, 1941 in Scott County, VA, son of the late Tom and Mattie Rhoton Lane. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and four sisters. E.J. was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be loved and missed by all. He was a member of Bible Baptist Church and was retired from Parkdale Mills. Mr. Lane is survived by his wife of 35 years, Barbara; children, Roy Lane, Mellissa Lawson, Allen and Amy Sturgill, James and Tracy Sturgill, Casandra and Greg Bulla; grandchildren, CJ and Mellissa Britt, Adrienne Daugherty, Scotty Sturgill, Alyssa Sturgill, Jimmy Sturgill and Krystle, Kari Sturgill and Brian, Cody and Livy Barker, Kerigan Parker, Eric Grindstaff, Chris Smith, Zack Carpenter, Nathan Carpenter, Autumn Bulla, and Paigelan Freeman; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Ronald Lane and Ralph Lane; numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 pm Monday at Greene Funeral Service, South Chapel, 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia. A funeral service will be held 2 pm Tuesday at Bible Baptist Church, 2404 Fairview Dr., Gastonia. The service will be officiated by Pastor Eddie Johnson, Pastor Roy Lane, and Pastor Marvin Carson. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Belmont. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the E.J. Lane Memorial Fund, c/o Barbara Lane, 3908 Cherokee Dr., Gastonia, NC 28052. Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
