Esther Thelma Lecher

Esther Thelma Lecher, 91, of Gastonia passed away March 24, 2013 at Alexandria Place, Gastonia. She was born May 7, 1921 in Luzerne County, PA, daughter of the late Charles and Lillie Cole Lahr. She married on September 18, 1947 to Mr. Robert E. Lecher Sr. who passed away in September of 1999. Esther spent the majority of her adult life as a loving, devoted and understanding wife, mother and grandmother. Earlier in her life she worked as a welder in the Philadelphia Shipyards during WWII and for several years owned and operated Esther's Beauty Shoppe. She enjoyed cooking, baking, bowling, playing cards, crocheting, listening to music, volunteering at her church, visiting with her many friends and spending time with her family. Esther gave unconditional love and acceptance to everyone she met and will be missed by all who knew her. She was a member of Lowell Methodist Church in Lowell, NY. Mrs. Lecher is survived by: her sons, Robert Jr. and Linda Cheesman of New Orleans, LA and Douglas Lecher and wife Shelley of Gastonia; grandchildren, Robert III, Ryan, Lezlie, and Amanda; great grandchildren, Joseph and Madison Lecher, Dylan Goss; sister, Vilma Ripa of Binghamton, NY. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by: her brothers, Charles, John, Edward, Warren, William; sisters, Margaret, May, Lillian, Amanda, Phyllis; son, Kyle David.
