Ervin Leroy "Bud" Hawkins,Jr., 69, of Kings Mountain, passed away on Saturday, May 22, 2021 after a lengthy fight against Covid.
He was born on November 10, 1951, in Gaston County, to the late Ervin Hawkins, Sr. And Myrtle Smith Hawkins.
Bud enjoyed the dirt track races and worked for many years at Carolina speedway and East Lincoln speedway other tracks around the area in various jobs. He was a member of New Buffalo Baptist Church in Grover. Bud never met a stranger and could talk the paint off the wall. He loved to go camping in the mountains or at the beach, as long as there were fish, he was ready to go.
In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Sparks, and a stepson, Ricky Bradley.
Bud is survived by his wife, Angie Hawkins; best friend and ex-wife, Mary Hawkins; brother, Ricky Hawkins and wife Sarah; sister, Debbie George and husband Dickie; sons, Ervin (Buddy)Hawkins III and girlfriend Amy, Dwight Hawkins, and wife Angel, Chad Hawkins and wife Abby, Anthony Potter and wife Kelli, Timothy Hawkins and fiancé Ashley; stepdaughters, Brittany Lee and husband Daniel, Annette Mathis and husband Don; 18 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren, 2 that he helped in raising, Leighanne Glover and Richard Bradley; 13 nieces and nephews; and his handy dandy work crew.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 from 6:00-8:00 pm at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service- 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia, NC.
A memorial service, officiated by Rev. Michael Rote, will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, May 28, 2021 at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service.
In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children – 950 W. Faris Street, Greenville, SC 29605 – www.shrinershospitalforchildren.org .
