Ernie Dale "Zeb" Burns Jr.

Ernie Dale "Zeb" Burns Jr., 56, of Lowell, NC, passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at his residence following a courageous battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

A native of Gaston County, he was born on October 8, 1969, to Ernie and Erlene Burns Sr. Zeb graduated from Ashbrook High School with the Class of 1987, where he developed a lifelong passion for football.

Zeb loved working on old cars and was always ready to pitch a game of cornhole. He especially cherished his family and the time spent making memories with those he loved. He also held dear the friendships he built throughout his life, including his beloved close friends, Bo Kirkland and Doyle Tyson.

Throughout his battle with ALS, Zeb showed incredible strength and courage. Though the disease took so much from him physically, it could never take away his love for his family, his sense of humor, his passions, or the memories he created. After a long and difficult fight, he is finally at peace and free from the suffering of ALS.

Zeb is survived by his parents, Ernie and Erlene Burns, Sr.; sons, Trey Burns and J.T. Burns (Cheyenne); daughters, Summer Burns, Tayla Brierley (Brandon) Seven grandchildren, Lindsey McClellan, Sierra McClellan, Kaylynn Burns, Kendalyn Dover, Raven Burns, Dominick Brierley, and Daemon Burns; brother, Jeff Burns; sister, Charlotte Bumgardner; nephew, Zach Bumgardner (Alivia) daughter Scarlett.

Zeb will be remembered for his love of family, his passion for old cars and football, his competitive spirit over a game of cornhole, and the many memories he created with the people closest to him. His family and friends will carry his love, laughter, and memory with them for the rest of their lives.

While his passing leaves an emptiness that can never truly be filled, those who loved Zeb can find comfort knowing that his suffering has ended. He fought a long and difficult battle, and he can finally rest.

Rest easy, Zeb. Your fight is over. You will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
