Elva Guffey Whiteside, 95, of Bessemer City, passed away on April 27, 2020, at her home.

She was born August 29, 1924, in Gaston County, daughter of the late Howard Alexander Guffey and Lena Bullard Guffey.

She was a member of Long Creek Presbyterian Church in Kings Mountain where she was involved in her church and many of its activities.

Mrs. Whiteside was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and a wonderful mother-in-law and a friend who truly was a blessing to everyone that knew her. She will always be missed by family and her friends. She was an inspiration to everyone with the way she lived her life. She loved people and always had a beautiful smile for everyone.

She owned and operated Whiteside's Florist in Bessemer City for many years and was active in working the voting polls during the elections.

A private family graveside service will be held at Long Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Kings Mountain, officiated by Rev. Jason Davenport.

Mrs. Whiteside is survived by her son, Harley (Jerry) Whiteside and wife Sheila; daughter, Melva Huffstetler and husband Roy; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Harley W. Whiteside; sister, Sara Lovelace; brothers, Edward and Coyte Guffey; grandchildren, Jennifer Huffstetler, Tripp Huffstetler, Christopher Huffstetler.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Long Creek Presbyterian Church, 701 Long Creek Road, Kings Mountain, NC 28086.

Arrangements are with the West Chapel of Greene Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
