Elsie Yvonne Chaney

Elsie Yvonne Ballard Chaney, age 85 of Gastonia, Passed away on July 19, 2024, in Gastonia, NC.

She was born May 5, 1939, in Bowling Green, SC, daughter of the late Lawrence Eldridge Ballard and the late Amanda Annie Lee Stewart Ballard.

Elsie was the first female rural letter carrier to retire from the United States Postal Service in Gaston County, NC.

She is preceded in death by her husband, the love of her life, Alvin Glen Chaney Sr.; daughter, Teresa Yvonne Humphries; sister, Louise Dover; brothers in law, Darvin Dover and Gene Falls; sister-in-law, Linda Ballard.

Elsie is survived by her sons, Alvin Glen Chaney Jr. and wife "Tilde" Chaney, son in law, Clyde "Eddie" Humphries Jr.;  Tony Michael Chaney and wife Chika, Gary Allen Chaney and wife Kate; daughter, Lori Reel; grandchildren, Christopher E. Humphries (Claudia), Andrew J. Humphries (Savannah), Amanda L. Humphries, Karen Q. Chaney, Mika M. Chaney, Apollo D. Reel, Ares L. Reel, Athena Y. Reel; great-grandchildren, Ivy, Theodore, Oliver; sister, Rachel Margaret Falls; brothers, Larry Ballard (Kathy), Charles "Hank" Ballard (Patsy), Floyd Ballard, Kenny Ballard.

The family will receive friends 6-8pm, Friday, August 2, 2024, at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service - 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia, NC 28052.

A funeral service officiated by Rev. Sam Barnette, will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 3, 2024, at the funeral home.

A burial will follow the service at Hollywood Cemetery, Gastonia, NC.
