Edward Joe Smith Sr.

Edward Joe Smith Sr., 85, of Gastonia, passed away August 17, 2022, at the Ivy in Gastonia.

He was born November 21, 1936, in Gaston County, son of the late General C. Smith and Ruth Young Smith.

Edward was an Air Force Veteran. One of his favorite hobbies was collecting coins.

He enjoyed going to the VFW and spending time with his family and friends. He had been self-employed for many years selling and delivering produce.

Edward is survived by his sons, Eddie Smith and wife Dixie, Danny Smith and Laura; grandchildren, Lee Smith and wife Emily, Gavin Lang and wife Amber; seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Edward was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years Lousie D. Smith; brothers, Clifford Smith, Lloyd Smith, Bill Smith and Kenneth Smith; sister, Dorothy Lovingood.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, August 20, 2022, at Greene Funeral Service, West Chapel, 216 Archie Whitesides Road Gastonia, officiated by Pastor Adam Mehaffey.

The family will receive friends 1-2 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Westview Gardens in Bessemer City.
