Edward "Eddie" Keith Harbin, 75, of Belmont, NC, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2026, at the Robin Johnson House in Dallas, NC. Born in Gastonia, NC, on December 23, 1950, to Ralph and Pauline Harbin, Eddie lived a life defined by quiet generosity, a gentle spirit, and an unwavering devotion to the family God blessed him with.
A man of few words, Eddie possessed a deep love for God's creation. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life: tending to his yard, watching his banana plants multiply, and making sure his backyard "critters," and summer hummingbirds were always well-fed. Eddie also enjoyed good food, Western movies, and General Hospital.
Eddie served his country in the US Army. His faith was a cornerstone of his life. At one time, Eddie was a member of Union Road Church of God, where he passionately led mission trips to West Virginia. For the last 15 years, he was a member of Catawba Heights Baptist Church, where he enjoyed worshiping the Lord with his family and being a part of the Second Prime Senior Adult Ministry. Though he served in many ways, Eddie always considered providing for and loving his family to be his most important ministry to the Lord.
His legacy of quiet love and trademark "Harbin humor" lives on through his family. He was a devoted and loving husband, brother, dad, uncle, and grandpaw. He is survived by his grateful daughters, Mandy Wood and her husband Andy, and Brandi Waters and her husband Joe; his four cherished grandchildren, Cody, Tyler, Toby, and Bekah; his siblings, Merry Jo Walker (Hank) and Johnny Harbin (Tammy); his brother-in-law, Phil Terry (Ann); his cherished nephew, Chris Harbin; as well as many other beloved nieces and nephews. He was reunited in heaven with his wife of 42 years, Phyllis, whom he affectionately called "Red". He was also preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings, Lily and Pat.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, October 5, 2026, at Catawba Heights Baptist Church. The family will receive friends during a visitation beginning at 6:00 PM, with the memorial service immediately following at 7:00 PM.
Every year for his birthday, Eddie asked his daughters to perform an act of kindness for someone else and tell him about it instead of buying him a gift. To honor his memory and carry on this beautiful tradition, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, you perform an unexpected act of kindness for someone in need.
The South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service is honored to serve the Harbin family. Condolences may be shared online at: www.greenefuneral.com.
