Edward Clinton "Clint" Scruggs

April 24, 1947 — June 15, 2014

Edward Clinton "Clint" Scruggs, 67, of Gastonia, passed away June 15, 2014 at his residence. He was born April 24, 1947 in York County, SC, son of the late William Thomas and Ruby Scruggs. He was a retired veteran, who graciously served our country as a Sargent in the US Army. Clint was known to much of his family simply as "uncle". He loved his nieces and nephews as a parent loves their child. They were his life. He dedicated over 46 years to his WIX family. WIX was his home away from home. He loved to write, often writing poems or silly songs dedicated to his "kids". He always knew how to bring a smile to someone's face. He had a love for life beyond compare. Clint was a devoted uncle, gifted evoker of laughter, a father figure, a loyal employee, gift-giver, talented writer, diet Sundrop connoisseur, expert diaper changer, lover of life, an avid wearer of plaid and very happily unmarried. Clint is survived by brothers, William "Gene" Scruggs, Carroll "Jerry" Scruggs and wife, Shirley; sisters, Patricia "Ann" Stanley and husband, Richard and Ollie Garmon and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Jeanette Cope, Linda Scruggs, Josie Stoddard, Willie Mae Melton and Evelyn O'neal. A funeral service will be held 3 pm on Friday at Greene Funeral Service - South Chapel - 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia, NC, officiated by James Herring. The family will receive friends 6 - 8 pm on Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Gaston Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Gaston Hospice, PO Box 3984, Gastonia, NC 28054. Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
