Dwaine Paul Menzie
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the peaceful passing of Dwaine Paul Menzie of Yellow Creek, NC at the age of 67 years. Dwaine achieved the rank of First Lieutenant in the US Marine Corp by the time he retired in 1993.
Dwaine was a person of kindness, excellence, and compassion. He spent much time caring for his friend and neighbor Faye Pries, giving her years of independence and happiness. Dwaine was a master craftsman. He created beautiful and unique pieces with wood. One of his specialties was puzzle boxes where there was a series of steps required for one to open the box. Dwaine was passionate about bodybuilding. For much of his life he worked in gyms as a certified personal trainer. He was trained to prescribe a program based on a person's body type. Dwaine was an entrepreneur having owned several businesses in his lifetime. Dwaine loved nature and enjoyed hiking. It was his love of nature that brought him to the Smoky Mountains. He was like Dr. Doolittle in the sense he cared for and communicated with animals of all kinds. On several occasions Dwaine rescued turtles crossing the road to prevent them from being run over. He provided a variety of seeds, nuts, and berries for the many animals that visited his home, ranging from birds to the occasional bear.
Dwaine was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Christina Menzie, and his sister Debbie Menzie, all of South Bend, Indiana. He is survived by his daughter April, of California, and son Isaac, of Indiana and grandchildren. Additionally, his absence will always be felt by his life partner and fiancé Rhonda Rowe of Gastonia NC.
