Doyle Gene (Buck) Hutson

Doyle Gene (Buck) Hutson, 85, of High Shoals, NC, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 7, 2024, surrounded by his family.

Gene was born in Quick, WV, to Nell Victoria Samples. He graduated from Stonewall Jackson High in Charleston in 1959. After graduation, Gene joined the US Air Force.

After serving in the Air Force, Gene married Nancy Daniels of Charleston, WV, and began working for Shoney's Restaurant. Gene and Nancy moved to Gastonia, NC, in 1965 to open and manage Shoney's Restaurant.

After moving to North Carolina, Gene became a die-hard UNC Tarheels fan.

He eventually made a career change and went to work for Wix Filters-Allen Plant, where he retired.

Gene was preceded in death by his loving mother, Nell Victoria Samples, and his brother, Glennville High of Charleston, WV.

Left to cherish his memories are his daughter, Karen Hutson Leonard (Marty); son, Charles Hutson (Lisa); grandchildren, Thomas Leonard, Jonathan Leonard (Molly), Gabriel Hutson, Luke Hutson, Bethany Hutson; 3 grand dogs, Mollie, Addie, and Bella.

The family would like to thank special friends and family, Roy Weiss, David Meadows, and Nancy and Max Rabb, who supported Gene through the years.

The family would also like to thank special staff and friends of Cardinal Healthcare & Rehabilitation and VIA Healthcare in Lincolnton, NC, who supported, cared for, and loved Gene through his journey.

A memorial service, officiated by Rev. Sam Barnette, will be held 5:00 pm, Thursday, June 13, 2024, at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service, 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
