Doy Rebecca Calhoun, 81, of Gastonia, passed away on October 28, 2018, at Alexandria Place in Gastonia.
She was born November 17, 1936, in Gaston County to the late Vester Pennington and Lena Blalock Pennington.
Mrs. Calhoun was a member of Sharon Free Will Baptist Church in Gastonia. She loved to cook and had worked with the Gaston County School System for many years. She enjoyed reading old western novels and was a fan of Elvis. She loved her family, friends and her church friends.
A graveside service will be held 3:00 pm Sunday, November 4, 2018, at Gaston Memorial Park, 1200 S. New Hope Rd. Gastonia, officiated by the Rev. Odell Cook.
The family will receive friends 6-8pm Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Greene Funeral Service, West Chapel, 216 Archie Whitesides Rd. Gastonia.
Mrs. Calhoun is survived by her son, Curtis Calhoun and wife Anna; daughter, Angelia Wood; brother, Harold Pennington and wife Mary; grandchildren, Chelsey Barker and husband Josh, Casey Calhoun and wife Sara, Russell Bryson and wife Shannon, Cathy Benoist; great-grandchildren, Aleena Barker, Carter Calhoun, Brody Bryson, Sydney Bryson, Bailey Bryson, Lauren Ledford and husband Tyler, Nathan Williams.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of almost 42 years, Claude Calhoun; brother, Billy Pennington; sisters, Betty Cable, Margaret James, Hazel Dills; sons, Jimmy and Forest Calhoun; daughter, Patricia Calhoun.
Arrangements are with the West Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
