Dorothy Baldwin. Thornburg, 93, of Bessemer City, passed away October 14, 2012 at Brian Center, Lincolnton. She was born March 28, 1919 in Gaston County to the late J. P. Baldwin and Chloe Stroupe Baldwin. Dot was a faithful life-long member of Bethea United Methodist Church, Bessemer City and was a member of the church choir. Mrs. Thornburg was a caring and compassionate loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She worked for Ti-Caro Threads for over 30 years and after her retirement she ran a successful cake decorating business from her home. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Howard E. Thornburg in 1992; her brothers, Loy Baldwin , Evan Baldwin, James Baldwin and Howard Baldwin; sister, Mary Richardson. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Greene Funeral Service , West Chapel, 216 Archie Whitesides Rd., Gastonia, officiated by Rev. Tony Green . The family will receive friends 12:30 - 2:00 on Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Westview Gardens, Bessemer City. Mrs. Thornburg is survived by: sons, Charles E. Thornburg and wife Virginia of Charlotte, Norris E. Thornburg and wife Gloria of Maiden ; daughter, Paulette T. Payne and husband John of Lancaster, VA; sister, Bertha B. Bradford of Bessemer City; sister in-law, Bobbie B. Baldwin of Gastonia; a dear and devoted friend of over 10 years Ernest Wilson of Maiden; 7 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren.; many nieces and nephews.
